CHARACTERS

STELLA (Sunah Biltsted)
Charismatic and in control, Stella is one tough cookie and proud of it. She has her whole crew wrapped around her pinky finger, especially her best friend, Maya, who looks up to her. She grew up and lives in Redhook, an industrial part of Brooklyn, where she shares an apartment with her mother and grandmother. Beneath her tough exterior is a girl who has dreams of escape and a better life. The only one who knows her to the core is her journal, which she writes in everyday, and Chris, her friend since birth, who lives upstairs from her. Bosco, and Satchel have been her friends since kindergarten, and at different points in high school, she went out with both of them.

She has been missing for the last 5 days, after an explosive fight with her friends. Her grandmother’s car has also disappeared.

MAYA (Sharon Eisman)
A few years ago while taking photos in Washington Square Park, Maya met a handful of kids a bit older then her. After the boys teased her sufficiently, and Stella looked her over, she bought them french fries and sodas at a local Greek Diner. After discovering that they live near each other, she began hanging around with them regularly.

Maya lives in a Park Slope brownstone with her parents who are both architects. As the youngest and most sheltered, her friends adore her naivete; the boys flirt with her and Stella enjoys being her protector. Maya will often buy everyone lunch, but will never invite anyone home. She doesn’t want to be excluded from the group by virtue of her wealth. She likes taking photos and hopes to go to art school.

BOSCO (Max Faugno)
Bosco lives in a small apartment in Queens with his large Romanian family. His mother is a baker and his father sleeps all day and is out all night. With no one ever home but his siblings, he was never forced to behave. Sharp and energetic, Bosco could not be contained by the school system, and rarely attended, but somehow graduated anyway. No one can tell if Bosco is on drugs. He keeps his whereabouts relatively secret, disappearing for days and slyly avoiding questioning. Always entertaining, somewhat annoying, and quizzically wise, Bosco is a trouble maker extraordinaire with a heart of gold.

MELISSA (Priscilla Holbrook)
Melissa knows what she wants and loves her job. She finds safety in planning. Sy and Melissa met at a party, where they instantly romanticized each other. Melissa (more so than Sy) also realized the potential social cache of their relationship – as the book editor/painter couple– and went to work planning their lives together. She does actually love Sy, but lately, she is more wrapped up in who she wants him to be then who he actually is.

Melissa hails from the Midwest, is beautiful, smart and ethical.

BENJI (James Ford)
Benji and Satchel have been best friends since childhood; the type of friends that compliment each other well; in their case, Benji calls up Satchel’s imagination, playfulness, and sensitivity, while Satchel boosts Benji’s self confidence and social visibility. Benji is a loyal friend, and they are inextricably dependent on one another. Until recently, when they find themselves competing for Maya’s attention.

A few years back, he noticed the storefront next to his parent’s apartment had vacated, and suggested to Sy that he move in and make it his painting studio. Benji works as an administrative assistant in the A&R department of a major record label, and plays the piano. He hopes to move out of his parent’s place within the next year.

SATCHEL (Sam Marks)
Satchel has potential. The potential to go the wrong way, or the right way. After graduating high school, he hasn’t bothered to get a job or go to college. As evidenced by his friendships with troublemaking Bosco and low key Benji, he straddles the fence of responsible behavior. He spends a lot of time at his brother Sy’s loft, by playing basketball indoors or distracting him otherwise. Satchel is likeable and streetwise; his smile is seductive and he is a natural leader, which makes it even easy for him to opt for irresponsibility and still get what he wants.

Until now. He is getting signals from Sy and Melissa to shape up and get out, and he has found himself in competition with his best friend, Benji, for Maya’s affection.

CHRIS (Douglas Paulson)
Chris grew up with Stella in the same 2 family home in Redhook. They were both raised by single mothers, and function more like siblings then friends. He knew from a young age that he was gay, and that he needed a much better lifestyle than Redhook could offer. He moved to Manhattan as soon as he could afford it, and proudly displays his accomplishments.

He’s never been one to socialize with Stella’s friends; he loves her like a sister, and recognizes that they are very different people. He does bump in to Sy at parties on occasion, and Bosco at the clubs, and has forged individual relationships with the both of them.

Sy (Michael Wiener)
Sy is introverted, and a bit tortured. He spends most of his time in his loft, avoiding his creative block by slacking with his younger brother Satchel and his friends. Even though they have parents, he is Satchel’s father figure, and plays a parental role to most of his friends too. His loft is a bit of a nest that way.

Moving into the loft was Sy’s way of committing to his work as a painter. He’s a working class guy that poo-poos being pigeonholed by art school and the gallery world. His unique and rebellious spirit continuously puts him at odds against the world.
